In today’s world, where there is an ever growing interdependence amongst nations and where fissiparous tendencies are fast disappearing, the world truly has become a global village. As global citizens, it is our duty and responsibility to be socially aware of not only our immediate surroundings but also that of people across borders and what equips today’s youth to understand such problems and concepts such as Model United Nations. In IIMUN conference, students don hats of diplomats and solve a plethora of issues ranging from Human
Rights violations to establishing peace between two countries who are at loggerheads. The solutions passed here are then forwarded to the United Nations for further discussion. Billabong High, Kanpur recognized the benefits of IIMUN in the overall development of the students. Keeping this in mind the school invited IIMUN to hold its Chapter 2 in Kanpur city from 25th Dec, 2015 to 27th Dec, 2015 in the school premises. It was a huge success where our students were pitted against top schools of Kanpur like DPS, Jaipuria and Dr. Virendra Swarup Public School participating in it.
This time we had almost 200 delegates from various schools in Kanpur and independent delegates from the surrounding areas. The delegates discussed various issues ranging from “The Reforms in the Security Council” to “Women rights violation in Arab nations” and “Insurgency in the North Eastern regions of India” under committees like U. N. Security Council, Human Rights Council, Lok Sabha etc. The delegates of International Press covered the entire chapter by clicking photographs and writing articles on various events of the Kanpur Chapter. The event started with a grand opening ceremony on 25th December, 2015 amidst distinguished dignitaries. The CEO and Founder of the school Mrs. Priti Agarwal started the ceremony by lighting the lamp along with the dignitaries present. The cultural program by the students of Billabong High Kanpur was appreciated and applauded by one and all. The closing ceremony for this chapter was held on 31st Dec, 2015. Dr. Murali Manohar Joshi the honorable Member of Parliament graced the occasion with his presence as the chief guest. The delegates were given certificates of appreciation by him. He addressed the students ,the teachers and the dignitaries present. The CEO and Founder of the school Mrs. Priti Agarwal gave the vote of thanks and wished all the students present a very happy and successful upcoming New Year. The Organising Committee headed by Savi Dua of grade XI did a wonderful job of making all the arrangements for the conference. The entire Organising team was appreciated for their perseverance and hard work which made the conference a successful event.
